The Cream Always Rises to the Top
Written by:  The Trainer
The above statement is not hearsay, it’s not a theory, it’s an undisputed fact. The cream always will rise, or if you will, work its way to the top. Unlike some other leagues, the SCTA is very competitive. Any team can beat another on any given day. However, the best will eventually separate themselves from the pack.

The Minor Bantam Grey Bruce Scandinave Highlanders, after a slow start to the season, would face the top teams in their division this weekend. How would they do?

Undefeated Oakville Rangers came to Flesherton on Saturday. The Highlanders were finally able to dress an almost complete squad for this game. The arena was nearly packed to capacity. Those who stayed home to clean their guns before moose camp next week missed a dandy. From the start of warm ups you could tell today would be different. When the biscuit was dropped to begin the game, it was obvious who the hunter was, and who was the hunted. The visitors had little chance against a fierce Highlander fore check, losing the puck battles Oakville then tried the rough stuff. Good luck with that one. Ever try and knock over a grass fed bull? Grey Bruce played a great game and outshot the Rangers by a country mile. The Oakville netminder faced more birdshot than a Bruce County gobbler during turkey season. Grey-Bruce would bag these two points.
Final Score: Highlanders 5-Oakville 1
Goal scorers: Trent Verbeek (2), Zach Trott, Brenden Cederberg, Connor Roberts
Assists: Zach Vokes, Alex Paylor, Justin Marlowe(2) ,Trent Verbeek(2),Zach Trott and Connor Roberts

Game 2-Against Hamilton Bulldogs.
On a rainy, cloudy, foggy and dreary day your Scandinave Grey Bruce Minor Bantams would travel to the Steel City to take on the hometown Hamilton Bulldogs.

After beating the #1 team on Saturday would they be ready for their old foes of last year? At the drop of the puck it was obvious what the Bulldog strategy was. Physical hockey. Grey Bruce weathered the storm and stood tall. Unfazed and having the smarts to realize the game is won on the score sheet the black and red went to work. Crisp passes, timely hits, and opportune goals were the difference in this match. Aidan Quish did a superb job of tracking pucks through a sea of legs and sticks to keep the puck out of the Highlander net. When it was all said and done, despite being outshot in the game, the good guys would head North with a sunny smile.
Final score: GBH 4 -Hamilton 2
Goals: Z. Trott, B.Cederberg, B. McFadden, J.Marlowe
Assists. D. Cornfield (2), C.Phillips, C. Roberts(2), and B. Cederberg.

The Highlanders had everything but the kitchen sink thrown at them this weekend.
What will next week’s opponents throw?
Will it matter?
Next Game: Sunday Oct 13 vs. Burlington Eagles
