Minor Bantams Have Hard Fought Losses and Sweet Wins
The end of January and the beginning of February has been a mixed bag of games for the Waste Management Minor Bantams.  They have been working hard but, are not getting those lucky bounces like some teams seem to recieve at those convenient times when one is needed................

Lucky bounces however are not what shows the true capabilities of a hard working team.   Even through their losses the Waste Management Minor Bantams are working well together and putting up a difficult fight to the end of each period.  Hard work is what prevails not what seems easy or lucky.

On January 19th the Minor bantams fell short to the Guelph Storm on home ice in Chesley with a score of 1-4. This was a close game in the first the the Storm leading 2-1. The highlander goal was scored by Will Rickerby with the helpers going to Jake Lee and Dalton Black.  The Storm would be the winners of this game holding the Highlanders to only 1 goal.

On January 2oth the Minor Bantams were back on home ice again playing the Southern Tier Admirals in Sunday afternoon action.  The Waste Management Minor Bantams seemed to feed off of their previous day loss and found themselves determined bring up the heat in this game winning with a score of 3-2.  After being down by 1 after the first period the boys rebounded with 2 goals in the second to take the lead. Goal scorers for the Highlanders were Shale Blakey and Mike Fiegehan. The assists were awarded to Troy Weber, Danny Skinner, Josh Urbshott and Jake Lee.  Third period was a tight fight with both teams both scoring one a piece but, the highlanders held for the win for the 2 points. Third period goal was scored by Noah Johnson assisted by Jake Lee.

On Thursday January 24th the Waste Management Minor Bantams travelled to Oakville for a late evening game.  The boys had a hard fought game with the Highlanders having their chances to bring home a win. Oakville denied them of their chances and won on home ice with a score of 5-3. Scoring details N/A.

Being back on home ice in Chesley on Saturday January 26th the Waste Management Minor Bantams played host to Hamilton.  With Hamilton up on the scoreboard first with a 1-0 lead after the first period the Minor Bantams fought back to put one of their own on the board in the second period to head into the third tied 1-1.  Unfortunately in the third period Hamilton added 4 more goals to take this game from the Highlanders with a final score of 5-1.  The lone goal for the Highlanders was scored by Noah Johnson with the assist going to Troy Weber.

February is looking great so far for the Waste Management Minor Bantams with three games on the road in one weekend they came home with a sweep and 6 points.   This was an impressive weekend of hockey for the boys as they put smiles on their fans faces as well as keeping them on the edge of their seats.  They had a very proud coaching staff this past weekend as well as proud parents.  On Saturday February 2nd the Minor bantams travelled to Niagara for a double header against the Niagara Riverman.   The highlanders were up on the scoreboard with a score of 2-0 after the first period. Goals scored by Mike Fiegehan and Noah Johnson. The assists were awarded to Troy Weber, Brendan, Clayton, Quinton Maddock and Jake Lee.  The second period saw both teams putting up a goal each for a score of 3-1 to start the third period.  Second period goal was scored by Damien Sutton who scored unassissted and is helping the team in an AP position.  Great start Damien~!  The third period saw Mike Fiegehan scoring his second goal of the game unassissted as well. Happy Birthday Laura~!  The waste Management Minor Bantams win this first game with a final score of 4-1.

Game two of the double header was a bit more of a high scoring bonanza for both teams.  Noah Johnson started the scoring in the first period assisted by Jake Lee to end the first period with a score of 1-1.  The second period had both the Riverman and the Highlanders each scoring 3 a piece leaving the start of the third period in a 4-4 tie. Second period goals for the Highlanders were scored by Dalton Black, Damien Sutton and Shale Blakey.  Assists were awarded to Will Rickerby, Brendan Clayton, Troy Weber and Mike Fiegehan (2).   With a tight third period the Highlanders put 3 more goals up while the Riverman added 1 to end the game with a score of 7-4.  Third period goals were scored by Jake Lee, Noah Johnson and Dalton Black.  Assists were awared to Shale Blakey (2), Noah Johnson, Jake Lee and Will Rickerby.

The last game of the weekend saw the Waste Management Minor Bantams playing in Brampton on Sunday February 3rd  in a late afternoon match.  The Highlanders at this age have not had the best luck against Brampton as a matter of fact they have not won a game against this club.  After the first period the home team, Brampton was up with a score of 1-0.  After the start of the second period Brampton would put one more up on the board for a 2-0 lead.   For the Highlanders it would seem difficult to come from behind.  With the hope that the teams defenseman would be able to keep up the pace and not become fatigued being down to 5 due to an ill Josh Urbshott.   With 5 minutes remaining in the second period the Highlanders put 3 goals past the Brampton goalie within 20-30 seconds of each other.   Goals were scored by Noah Johnson, Danny Skinner and Quinton Maddock. The assists were awarded to Jake Lee (2), Danny Skinner, Noah Johnson, Dalton Black and Jordan Taylor.
With the Highlanders having 3 power plays and 3 penalty kills in the third period the boys did a fantastic job of holding their 3-2 lead for a final score and a very exciting win.  I believe that you would have thought that they had won the stanley cup by the way the fans were so thrilled with an awesome win.
Congratulations to Ryan Winter and Tate Millsap for playing the pipes in style.  The forwards Jordan Taylor, Dalton Black, Troy Weber, Shale Blakey, Mike Fiegehan, Will Rickerby, Jake Lee, Noah Johnson and AP Damien Sutton on an awesome weekend of hockey.  Way to work Defenseman Logan Swanton, Danny Skinner, Josh Urbshott, Quinton Maddock, Brendan Clayton and Matt Epoch on a fantastic weekend of defending your team and looking after the guy between the pipes~!

The next 2 games on the schedule will have the Highlanders playing Brampton once again at home Saturday February 9th at 1:30 in Chesley and Sunday in Brampton.  Lets do it again boys, now that you know you can~!
