Back To Business In The New Year!
The Waste Management Minor Bantams are having a fantastic gritty start to this New Year. These boys certainly showed their heart and determination in the first two games back from the holidays.

First I would like to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from The Waste Management Minor Bantams and their families.  It is our wish for everyone that 2013 proves to be a fantastic and healthy New Year.

On Saturday January 5th it was back to business for the Highlander Minor Bantams as they took on Welland in Chesley. After the first period the Highlanders found themselves down with a score of 4-2.  Goals in the first were scored by Jordan Taylor from Noah Johnson and Will Rickerby unassisted.  The boys had some catching up to do in the second and they were determined to do so.  The Highlanders started the scoring with a goal from
Quinton Maddock from the point. Shortly after that Welland would do the same keeping the score to a two goal lead of 5-3.   The Highlanders were not done yet. A much needed goal scored by Josh Urbshott narrowed the gap for the team with the assist going to Jordan Taylor ending the period with a one goal lead for Southern Tier.  At the start of the third period Welland scored and once again the Waste Management Minor Bantams were down by 2.  With the clock ticking down and a loss looking like the outcome, the Highlanders poured it on and put Welland on their toes down to the wire.  Shale Blakey scored  for the Highlanders with 1:24 left in the third to put them within one goal of a point. Shale's goal was assisted by Toy Weber.   Nothing like leaving things to the last minute when Shale Blakey scored again with .41 on the clock to tie the game at 6-6.  The assists were awarded to Quinton Maddock and Josh Urbshott.

On Sunday January 6th, the Minor Bantams traveled to Brampton for an early morning game against Halton.  What an awesome, hard fought and exciting game to watch the Highlander Minor Bantams play.  After 2 periods of play the game remained scoreless.  Fast end to end action with the Waste Management Minor Bantams outplaying and out hustling the Hurricanes.  At the 7:50 mark in the third period Halton put one into the mesh putting them on the scoreboard. With alot of time left for the Highlanders to respond, many chances and the boys battling hard they pulled Ryan Winter from between the pipes to try and tie it up but, the Hurricanes were victorious with a empty netter for a final score of 2-0. Congrats to Ryan Winter who played a great game making alot of key saves. All of the Highlander Minor Bantams showed up ready to play, worked their butts off, dominated the game and in the end this game should have been a victory for them. As fans we loved watching them play with such determination.  It left us wanting more! That is what we want to watch next home game and every game after that.

See you next Saturday the 12th in Chesley at 12pm as the Minor Bantams get their rematch against the Oakville Rangers.
Bring your cheer~!
