Pee Wee Highlanders Continue Winning Ways Through Christmas Break
written by:  The Trainer

The Scandinave Grey Bruce Highlanders spent part of their Xmas break in Burlington and skated away with another tournament win. That would make it 3 for 3 in tournaments this year compiling a record of 16-1-1. The Burlington Horseshoe Tournament saw the Highlanders steam roll over the Toronto JR Canadians 5-0. Take Brampton behind the wood shed 5-1. Clip the West Seneca wings 4-0. A close game to Kitchener 2-2 and another somewhat close game that in the end would result in the Welland Admirals going down with their ship 4-3.

The final was a beauty of a game, the Rangers and the "commish" tried to intimidate the Highlanders with some physical play but the team would have none of it, answering the bell and beating the Kitchener JR Rangers by a 5-4 score. A record breaking 3rd tournament win.

Proving to themselves they could win in tournaments the team had one more game before heading back to school and it was a road game against one of the top teams. Playing in downtown Oakville at an arena that was built long ago, when people were smaller, the Black and Red hit the ice and started strong in the first period. It was mostly owned by the Highlanders but the score remained 0-0 and it wasn’t until the second when Grey Bruce stopped skating did Oakville score and make it 1-0. That seemed to wake the Highlanders up from their self imposed slumber as a few nifty passes here and a few accurate bullet shots there had the good guys up 3-1 before an empty netter would cap the game at a 4-1 win.

The Highlanders are back on the ice Saturday Jan 12 in Hamilton when they will square off against the Bulldogs.
