Santa Claus and The Grinch

Two games remained before the Holiday break. The first game was an away game in Thorold on Saturday against the Welland Southern Tier Admirals. After about a 3 hour sleigh ride the Scandinave Grey Bruce Highlanders were looking for another road win. The game seemed to be going the right way after a Zack Trott breakaway put the Highlanders up by one. Assists went to Zack Vokes and Justin Marlowe.

And It wasn’t long after that when Trott fired in another, with helpers to Marlowe and Chet Phillips. Did the Visitors start to feel some Christmas Spirit. Too much Christmas spirit actually. The Grey Bruce Santa’s were in a giving mood, so , they gave the puck away, they gave the lead away , and when it was all said and done they gave 2 points away. Four unanswered goals by the Admirals in the last 5 minutes of the game sunk the Highlander ship. Needless to say, it was a quiet sleigh ride home.

Final Score: Welland 4, Santa 2

The second game of the weekend was a Sunday tilt against the Brampton 45’s. Not wanting coal in their stockings, the Scandinave Grey Bruce Highlanders knew they needed a win. At the drop of the puck the Santa hats came off and the Grinch hats went on. Hayden Coulter got the first one with assists to Brendan Cederberg and Leif "the Viking" McFadden. Second period goals went to Connor Roberts assists Cederberg and Austin Vanwyck and Zack Trott unassisted.

In the third it was Trent Verbeek from Marlowe, Trott again from linemates Verbeek and Marlowe, Roberts from Cederberg , and Alex Rico from Carter Buehlow and Kent Ribey. The Brampton goose was cooked. The Grey Bruce grinches not only stripped every last bulb off the Brampton Christmas tree, they chopped it down and fed it through the wood chipper. Now that’s my kind of Christmas spirit.

Final score: Grinch 7, Brampton 1

Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year to all!
Next Game Thursday Dec 27th vs.Toronto JR Canadians at Burlington Horseshoe Tournament.
