Highlanders Beat Burlington
written by:  The Trainer

On the hunt for their first league road victory of the season, the Highlanders travelled to Burlington with hopes of bagging an eagle. While some of the coaching staff enjoyed a Tim Horton’s coffee the boys took to the outside for a brisk pre game warm up to find their legs after a long drive.

At the drop of the puck both teams came out looking to draw first blood, but it was clear the Highlanders had their sights set on a win as they controlled the early play. Like a bird dog on a scent, Brendan Cederberg hunted down a rebound in front of the Eagle net and backhanded it past the netminder to put the black and red up by one at the end of the first. Helpers were from linemates Connor Roberts and Hayden Coulter.

The Eagles would get one of their own in the second and the Highlanders knew they would have to re-load in order to regain the lead. Still in the second, Cederberg would drive down the right wing, push through a hit, circle behind the Eagle net and feather a pass out to Roberts who would make no mistake and hit the kill zone to put the Scandinave Grey Bruce Highlanders out in front once again.

Despite a barrage of shots fired at the Burlington goalie there would be no Highlander scoring in the third. But it didn’t matter, as the physical play by the Grey-Bruce D-men kept the Eagles well grounded. Knowing they could have been better, the visitors took the two points and headed back to camp.

Final Score: Highlanders 2 Eagles 1
Next Game: Friday Dec 7 vs. Whitby Wildcats at Quinte Red Devil tournament.
