SCTA Minor Midget Showcase
The Garb & Gear Source for Sports Minor Midgets started their weekend early Saturday morning with the Education Presentations by the OMHA, OHL and OUA on their respective programs, scholarships, the OHL Priority Selection and opportunities within hockey at Brock University in St. Catharines.

The OMHA AAA Showcase featured all ten Minor Midget AAA teams from the SCTA League competing during regular season play, and the Highlanders did not disappoint.  The first game for Grey Bruce was against the Niagara Rivermen on Saturday afternoon in St. Catharines.

This was the first time that these teams played each other this season and Grey Bruce skated away with a  5 – 1 win.  The Rivermen were the first on the scoreboard with just under 9 minutes left in the first period.  The Highlanders were able to tie it up by the end of the period on a Brady Richards goal, assisted by Robert White and Reid Simmons.  Scoring in the 2nd period was Riley Cook, assisted by Josh Hopkin and Robert White.  3rd period goals included Kyle Hunter, and Braden Boley (2), assists going to Quinten Bruce and Richards. Cam Harron played all 45 minutes of the game.  Riley Cook was awarded the game MVP.

Next up for Grey Bruce was league leading Southern Tier Admirals on Sunday afternoon.  The Highlanders came out strong in the first period and had their opponents on their heels, but the Admirals goalie kept Grey Bruce off the scoreboard.  After two periods of play, the score remained tied at 0 and it wasn’t until just under ten minutes left in the 3rd that the Admirals were able to score.  A late period empty net goal ended the game with a 2-0 win for the Admirals, but the score did not reflect how competitive the game was.  Malcolm Young played 49:13 minutes in goal and Riley Robertson was awarded game MVP.

Next up for the Minor Midgets is three home games, Saturday afternoon in Chesley against the Burlington Eagles , and a double header against the Niagara Rivermen on Sunday in Markdale.
