The Minor Midgets battled it out with the Brampton Jr Battalion during weekend play and won 2-0 in Brampton on Friday night, but lost 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in Chesley.
Midway through the first period of the first game, Quinten Bruce scored the Highlanders’ first goal, assisted by Keegan McLelland and Brady Richards. Ben Scheel scored 5 minutes into the second period, assisted by Kyle Hunter and Colin Rigney.
Earning the shutout for the Highlanders was Malcolm Young, stopping all 18 shots including a penalty shot in the second period.
Sunday’s game was a different story for the Highlanders missing 4 injured players. The Battalion took the lead with 2 goals in the first and 1 in the 3rd which left the Minor Midgets down 3 – 0. Kyle Hunter scored for Grey Bruce with just over 4 minutes left in the game, assisted by Simmons, to bring them within 2 goals. Brampton scored an empty net goal to end the game 4-1.
Next up for the Minor Midgets are 2 home games in Chesley this weekend. The Halton Hurricanes on Saturday at 4pm and the Bramption Jr. Battalion on Sunday at 2pm.
