It was a beautiful day in Ayton for the Garb & Gear Source for Sports Minor Midgets for their home opener against the Guelph Jr. Storm.
Robert White unassisted shot from the point deflected off of a Guelph player with just over 3 minutes remaining in the period put the Highlanders in the lead to finish the 1st period with a score of 1 – 0. Guelph was able to capitalize on some Highlander penalties in the 2nd with two power play goals to end the period with a lead of 2 – 1. Highlanders were able to tie it up in the 3rd with just over 5 minutes left on a Braden Boley goal assisted by Quinten Bruce. The Minor Midgets walk away from their season opener with a tie of 2 – 2, but are encouraged by the fact that both of their goals were even strength and that they were short handed on both goals against them. Cameron Harron had a strong game between the pipes, stopping 25 of 27 shots on net.
Next game is at home in Flesherton on Saturday against Halton and an away game in Burlington on Sunday.
