Biermans Minor Bantams Battle the Battalion and the Storm
Written by Tom Macham:

On Saturday November the 12th the 98’s hosted the Brampton Battalion. Having played the same team only 6 days previous and coming away with a 5-5 draw, the boys were hoping for at least a repeat performance...

However, after 45 minutes of play the minor bantams came out on the short end of a 5-1 score. Some bad bounces and outstanding play by the Brampton goaltender (who would push a tape measure to almost 6 ft) dictated the outcome of the game. Even though the Highlanders outshot the opposition 33-24 they were only able to beat the Battalion netminder once. A third period marker by Jordan Caskenette (Owen Sound) from Justin Donnelly (Walkerton) and Justin McCrae (Owen Sound) was the only time the Highlanders could find a chink in his armor.

Sunday’s game however, saw a reversal of fortunes in the goaltending department, as it was a Highlander puck stopper’s time to shine. Playing probably his best game of the year was diminutive (english translation – a lot less than 6 ft) Brendan Macham. Up against the Guelph storm for the 4th time this year the game remained knotted at zeros after 2 periods of play. The Storm scored early in the third on a shot from the point which seemed to handcuff number 29. However, ”the little goalie from Creemore” stayed sharp for the remainder of the game until a couple of Owen Sound boys were able to sneak the tieing goal behind the Guelph tender. With little time left on the clock, Caskenette and Alex Tiley were able to team up with Tiley scoring his fourth goal of the year.

Up next for the 98’s was a weekend off and then a home and home with the Burlington Eagles on November 26th and 27th.
