Scandinave Minor PeeWees Storm Through Hurricane Country
The Scandinave Minor PeeWees spent the weekend on the road after a robust week of practice. On Saturday, the boys brought their "A" game to Milton as they played a double header against the hometown Halton Hurricanes. It was a great opportunity for the Highlander squad to improve their lead over their SCTA rivals.

In game #1, the motivated squad dominated play and grabbed a quick 1-0 lead on a goal by Connor Roberts. Trevor Donaldson chipped in with the helper. The team continued to apply pressure and were rewarded with 3 more goals; 2 off the stick of Mr. Roberts, and 1 from Evan Visser. Brayden MacKenzie collected 2 helpers while singles went to Sean "Oshi" O'Donnell, Trevor Donaldson and Captain Derrick Cornfield. Up by a sore of 4-1, the boys hit the snooze button and let the Hurricanes back into the contest. Brayden Mackenzie scored the 5th goal with the help of Carter Buehlow and Ryan Thede to preserve the 5-4 victory for the visitors. Lucas Pfeil was steady in goal as he recorded the victory.

In game #2, The Highlanders continued where they left off in the previous game. They continued to attack in the offensive end and the "D" contingent played a physical but smart game. Once again, Connor Roberts opened the scoring after being set up by his hometown buddy Austin Vanwyk. Justin Marlowe and Matthew "Boggy" Bogenreider scored to put the boys up by a 3-1 score. Jamie Damignani, Leif McFadden and Evan Visser potted the assists on the 2 Highlander markers. Connor Roberts rounded out the scoring on an unassisted goal to secure the 4-2 victory. Malachi Albrecht was in between the pipes and he also looked sharp as he recorded the win. Yes! 2 victories in a row!

Looking to draw on the emotion of "Super Saturday", the minor PeeWees were back in their vehicles Sunday as they headed to Brampton to due battle with the Jr. Battalion. Things looked promising early on as the boys took a 1-0 lead on a nifty goal by "AP" Zach Trott. Winger Brenden Cederberg and Brayden Mackenzie chipped in with the assists. Both teams came prepared to play. With plenty of scoring opportunities at both ends and some excellent goaltending by both netminders, the teams entered the third period knotted at 3 goals a piece. Matthew Bogenreider potted the 2rd Highlander goal. Linemates Jamie Damignani and Evan Visser collected the assists. The third Highlander marker came off the stick of Trevor Donaldson on a nifty breakaway. Connor Roberts chipped in with the helper. Things remained that way until a late goal by the Battalion on a delayed penalty call. Not willing to call it a night just yet, the coaches pulled the goalie in favour of an extra attacker but came up short as the opponents secured victory with an empty netter to claim a 5-3 victory.

As the team enters the halfway mark of the 2011-2012 campaign, the boys should take that momentum from the past weekend and carry that forward. Hard work and dedication always pays off! On Saturday, your 407 transponders will get a good workout as the team heads to Welland to tackle with the Admirals. It's back to Chesley on Sunday as the big dogs from Hamilton return  for a much anticipated afternoon affair. Should be another great weekend at the rink. Where else would you want to spend the holiday season?
