Despite being out shot 10-2 in the first period the boys game out skating hard and carried most of the play in the period.
Our kids never had even one face off in their own end. As much as they took it to them the boys just couldn't get shots through to the goal. The Milton team was very good in collapsing in on their goal and defending in tight. After a late scramble in front of the Highlanders goal the Milton squad came out ahead at the end of the period 1-0.
The second period saw the Milton boys carry most of the play having scoring chance after scoring chance. After a couple of outstanding saves by Talon Johnsen the opposition finally got another past him on a breakaway. Late in the second they continued with pressure and was rewarded with their third goal of the afternoon.
The third period saw much of the same with Talon standing tall keeping his team in it. Then with 4 minutes remaining our boys charged down the ice and were rewarded with a beauty goal by Mark Aljoe that beat the Milton goalie on the short side. This gave the team and fans in the stands a breath of new life and excitement that perhaps a comeback might be in the works. Off the face off the Milton squad raced down the ice and managed and executed a 2 on 1 perfectly which Talon once again timed right and made yet another incredible save. From the next face off the boys took the puck to the Milton end but yet again were unable to get a shot on net. In the end it would have been nice to see that comeback complete if there was just a little more time left. Way to go kids...never say die!
Final shots were 36-5 in a 3-1 loss.
