First two regular season games
On Sept 19th and 20th the Garb and Gear Bantam Highlanders played their first 2 regular season games. Both Oakville and Hamilton advanced from the SCTA last season, so this was a benchmark for things to come.

On Sept 19th the team travelled to Oakville Rangers. The first period was end to end, the Highlanders dominated puck possession. there was one 5-3 power play for us, but no goals forthcoming. the first ended scoreless.
The second started with a powerplay as well. After a rough start, the pp got going and at 1343 Dunsbier scored to the top right corner from the slot fed by Scheel and Cook. After this goal, there was a shift in momentum as Oakville started to apply more pressure.
At 5:55 oakville got a good bounce off the post and tied the game 1-1. Highlanders went on the penalty kill at 4:28 on a highsticking call. The Highlanders successfully killed this penalty, which included a great shotblock from Bell. In the third period, both teams started to increase the bodychecking and play continued end to end. with 7:17 remaining, Highlanders went on the penalty kill on a trip call. Good stop by Cam Harron at 6:17, however at 5:18 Oakville scored from the slot. No further scoring, as the game ended in a loss 2-1 Oakville. It was an evenly matched game that could have gone either way.

On Sept 20th, the team hosted Hamilton Bulldogs, top team in the SCTA  last year. Due to a bus breakdown, the game was abbreviated with a 1hr delay in start time. Hamilton opened  the scoring at 7:50 tipping a shot from the right point. Rigney was stoned by the glove hand of the hamilton goalie at 6:42, a sign of things to come. The talent of the Hamilton team was evident with a strong forechecking game. We didn't have much time wiith the puck and when we had passed the puck a hit would shortly follow. Hamilton also scored at 4:46 and 3:17, the first ending 3-0.
The second period was more evenly matched, we broke out of our end better, and there was some great defensive play from Harron, and breaks stopped with good recoveries by Riehl and White.
In the third period we had some good chances on efforts from Simmons, Boley. However Hamilton scored at 11:20 and 9:43.
At 5:40 Cam decided to try his hand at defence, coming out of the net on a challenge and then from the blueline fed Simmons on a breakaway up the center. The Hamilton's goalie glovehand was recurring theme in this game.
Final score 5-0 for Hamilton.

Both games were entertaining to watch and showed great promise for the team this season.
