Superior Midgets Battling Through Slump
It has been a tough couple of weeks for the Grey Bruce Superior Road Midgets. Participating in the Waterloo tournament Dec 11 & 12, the midgets managed only one win in four games, and were badly outscored by their opponents.
Their final game of the tournament was a rematch against the Ottawa 67's who the team faced earlier in the season in the Markham tournament. This was the team's best game of the tournament and a good measuring stick to how much their hard work has paid off to this point. In Markham a tired Highlander team was badly outmatched by the Ottawa squad, but in Waterloo our boys were in the game from the start and showed Ottawa they would not be beaten easily. The goal posts were hit no less than seven times by a snakebitten Highlander team, and despite their offensive chances the 67's were victorious again.
Regrouping for their next three league games, the boys showed some real grit and determination especially against Niagara Falls and St Catharines this weekend, but were not able to secure any points.
Despite the big score of 6-0 in Niagara's favour the Highlanders outplayed and outshot the Canucks, however the Falls goalie played the game of his life and managed to get in front of the puck, no matter where our Highlanders tried to sneak it through.
Another tremendous effort in St Catharines on Sunday December 20th, our boys put together a solid three periods of hockey, but just came up short on the scoreboard losing a very close game 3-2.
The Superior Midgets have one last league game in Chesley on Wednesday December 23rd at 830pm vs Brampton before the Christmas Break.
