So close... One goal shy of advancing...
AAA Major Midgets had a good weekend but not the success they hoped for as they came within one goal of advancing against the top-ranked Burlington Eagles to see who would earn the right to advance to the OMHA's...

The Lakeview RV Centre Grey-Bruce Highlanders AAA Major Midgets finished with a 2-2 record and one goal shy of advancing to the final four on Sunday at the South Central Triple A (SCTA) Playoff tournament held this weekend in St. Catharines.

Going into the last game on Saturday, both Grey-Bruce and the Hamilton Bulldogs had 2-1 records and a win or tie would have allowed Grey-Bruce to advance to Sunday’s playoff.  Unfortunately, the result was 3-2 win for Hamilton.  Kevin Czuczman and Matt Reid scored the Highlander goals.  Hayden Smith and Trent Hawke assisted on Kevin's goal and Jed Ironmonger got the assist on Matt's goal which was scored with 26 seconds left and the Highlander net empty.

Earlier Saturday, Grey-Bruce shutout the Halton Hurricanes 7-0.  Drew Pegrum earned his second shutout of the tournament and Hayden Smith led the way with two(2) goals.  Single goal scorers were Trent Hawke, Dakota Scratcher, Braeden Rigney, Matt Reid and Nick Glassford.  Tyson LeBlanc assisted on three of the seven goals and single assists went to Hayden Smith, Kevin Czuczman, Jon Aitken, Trent Hawke, Braeden Rigney and Jed Ironmonger

On Friday, the first game was a 1-0 shutout for Grey Bruce over Brampton Battalion.  Trent Hawke scored with just 3:44 left in the game to break the 0-0 deadlock.  Justin Ainslie assisted on Trent's winning goal.  Drew Pegrum was in goal to earn the shutout.

The second game saw the Guelph Junior Storm defeat Grey-Bruce by a score of 4-1.  Robbie Moe scored for the Highlanders on the powerplay with 26 seconds left in the second period to make the score 2-1.  Brett Woods and Kevin Czuczman assisted on the goal.  Guelph then went ahead in the third with two quick goals to put the game out of hand.
