A solid team effort would see the Biermans Bantams play solid all weekend taking a point each game home and away...

On Saturday, the Highlanders hosted the Halton Hurricanes, ending the game in a 2-2 tie to take a league point each. Netminder Jason Goes (Cookstown) would play a very solid game between the pipes, in support of his teams efforts, saving 22 shots. Midway into the first period the score clock would see Halton take the first goal. But battling back hard, the fans would watch the Grey Bruce boys move the puck effectively, make some solid body checks and finally see a pay off with a game tying goal by Justin Donnelly (Pinkerton) with assisting efforts from Devin Perdue (Hanover) and Eric Langridge (Saugeen Shores). Bouncing back, Halton would take yet another lead, but not for long.

The Highlanders were hungry for results and continued to battle hard both offensively and defensively. With 30 quality shots on the Halton goalie, the Biermans boys would finally tie things up once again, as Jordan Caskenette (Owen Sound) would finally pop one in on a rebound shot from Langridge on a pass by defense Alec Tiley (Shallow Lake). Both teams would continue to play hard in both ends, but the score would remain a tie at 2-2.

On a snowy Sunday, the Bantams traveled to Hamilton to take on the first placed Bulldogs. Playing the first period tight, the Grey Bruce lads would have many quality shots on the Bulldogs, and slow them down with defensive aggressiveness. Brady Becker (Durham) would finally capitalize on an opportunity at the net to give the Highlanders the first lead, with the assist going to Perdue. The Bulldogs would take a moment of control and tie the game up at the end of the first and a 2-1 lead early in the second. The second period would see end-to-end action, with both teams fighting hard for a win. An empty offensive end of the ice gave Caskenette a golden opportunity to tie the game, as he left the penalty box straight to a Langridge dump-in from the defensive end. In a tied game, heading into the third, both teams were eager to take one last shot at a win. The Biermans lads would take control of the play into the Bulldog’s end, and see Perdue take a shot from the corner of the net with an assist to Donnelly to take a 3-2 lead on the Bulldogs. The remainder of the period was a well-played game for both teams. The Highlanders fought hard to try and secure their lead, but the Bulldogs still managed to find the net one last time to tie the game at 3-3. A great game to watch, as the Highlanders outshot their opponents 26-18, with Tristen Lewis (Saugeen Shores) coming up with many key saves in the net.

Come out next Sunday, and watch the Grey Bruce boys take on Oakville on Chesley home ice at 12:45 pm.
