Busy Start for Minor PeeWee
Submitted By Vonnie on Thursday, September 02, 2010
Waste Management Minor Peewees kicked off the season with exhibition games.

Congratulations to the Waste Management Minor Peewees as they kicked off the season with exhibition games against the high flying York Simcoe Express and Waterloo Wolves.

Their first game ever as teammates was against the Express at the Nottawasaga Inn Sport Complex in Alliston.  Although they did not win the game they can’t consider themselves to be losers.  The boys played well with their new teammates against a very powerful squad of veteran players from the Newmarket area.  The Express scored early and often but our boys played hard and never quit and by the third period they settled down and had some outstanding shifts.  The Highlanders created several good opportunities but failed to capitalize until the line of  Evan Spencer, Tyson Wilkins and Garrett Logie finally broke the ice when Evan Spencer scored the first ever Waste Management Minor Peewee goal assisted by his line mates.

Although the final score was 10-1 the new kids on the block finished the game very strongly on Tuesday night and on an extremely positive note.

On Wednesday night they were on the road again to face the Waterloo Wolves.

This game was a different story from the first faceoff.  The guys picked up on the momentum gained from game number one and hit the ice like they were sorting wildcats in a burning hayloft.  They dominated play in the first period but the game remained scoreless.

The boys kept skating hard in the second stanza and Michael Fiegehen finished off a perfect feed from Jakob Lee who was fed by Noah Solinger.  They maintained that lead until late in the period when Waterloo responded with two power play efforts. The score was 2-1 for the Wolves after two periods of play.  The third period was scoreless with great chances at both ends of the rink. Waterloo finally scored another power play goal with 37 seconds remaining.  The final score was 3-1 for the Wolves.

Everybody played a great game and the defence corps was outstanding led by the superb effort of Jack Armstrong between the pipes.

Yes folks, its night time and we know where our children are. The Grey Bruce Highlanders Waste Management Minor Peewees have arrived and they do indeed compete.

The next game is at the Ayton Normanby Arena on Saturday September 4th at 1:00 PM when they welcome the Waterloo Wolves for the second time in a week.
