The
entire day was absolutely perfect in every way. Early on August 7th the Waste Management Minor
PeeWee players & parents arrived at the Duntroon Highlands
for Team Spirit Day. The players were all great and participated in a whole bunch of team building events and valuable discussions on respect and are learning how to work together. It is easy to see that every individual player is quickly learning that “We are the Highlanders” and not “I am the Highlanders”. A great job everybody.
I especially liked the “two guys in a sweater” thing where they had to work together to climb the hill and go back down as a team. Whose bright idea was it to put Ethan and Scott together? Going uphill was a cinch as Ethan just lugged his buddy up the hill. But we’re sorry bout yer luck Scotty when Ethan tripped going downhill. At least we’ll recognize Scotty a little better now. He is paper thin and just a little bit taller. I can’t help being a little bit disappointed that the two coaches and manager didn’t slide themselves into a goalie sweater to demonstrate the drill for the boys.
Apparently nobody won the scavenger hunt because our brilliant assistant coach can’t remember how many sweaters he hung out in the bush in the first place. I know he’s going to blame that on somebody else. But Coach Scott, “the buck stops here”..........deal with it. The folks responsible filling the balloons with water also deserve recognition for inadequate performance. They should have been filled so that they break first time every time. These people are responsible for the “delay of game” penalties. A good effort, but certainly not AAA calibre..........just sayin.
After witnessing Krista gently beckoning our boys to “please come down off that hill now.....and thank you for kind attention” it reminds me of something my Grandpa always taught me. He would always say “Never let your mother comb your hair when she’s mad at your dad.” It’s still true to this day.
The food and barbeque stuff was certainly AAA and many thanks for a job well done. Special thanks to the folks that did the cookin, and the cleanup crew. And how bout Al Jerkey’s Family Restaurant for supplying the meat. Thank you for your support.
And we had a great golf tournament arranged by Grant and attended by about 12 players. The weather was perfect and in bright sunshine with all competitors at even par when they drove into the parking lot but things went downhill from there. There were no winners although Jeff, Jim, Grant and Grandpa Vegas may have had a slight edge at 32 under par......(give or take). The undisputed longest drive award went to Phyllis Chisholm at 238 km from just south of Seaforth.
Special thanks to everybody there and those who couldn’t make we missed you.
See you at practice.
