As the summer season says goodbye and the fall season says hello it can only mean two things in Grey- Bruce County. Deer Hunting and Hockey!

Allow me to introduce this years Grey Bruce Major Bantam Highlanders. This year’s team is bigger, faster, more focused and smarter. Combine that with a new and better looking bench staff and it can only mean good things. This team is hotter than a pistol! Disclaimer: The above paragraph contains truths, half truths and outright lies.

9 games played: 3 wins against 5 losses and a draw is not exactly the start this team was looking for. Having said that, the first tournament of the year were the first games of the year for this squad.

Then there was that blown 3 goal lead in the third against Guelph. This weekend’s games vs the Buffalo Regals began with a bang as Grey Bruce won the first of a double header 2-1 with just seconds left on the clock. The second game however looked like the Highlanders spent their afternoon at the buffet table while the Regals opted for a light lunch. A disastrous second period and little offence by the black and red resulted in an ugly 6-1 loss and the Buffalo Regals handing the Highlanders their hide on the way out the door.

It has been a mediocre start to the season at best. There are 3 games this upcoming weekend, will the boys finally find their groove? Stay tuned.
