2010-2011 Bantam - Two exhibition games vs Huron Perth Lakers
Submitted By Mark Dunsbier on Monday, September 06, 2010
On Sept 2, 6th the Highlanders played the Huron Perth Lakers in 2 exhibition games.

On Sept 2,  the Bantam Highlanders travelled to Milverton for an exhibition game vs the Huron Perth Lakers.
It was a great game to watch, as the boys really stepped up their game to play a good Huron Perth squad. (winners of the Alliance last year)
Goal scorers: 1st period no scoring; 2nd period: with 8:26 remaining  Rigney unassisted; 3rd period: with 6:48 remaining Cook from Shaw and  Dunsbier.

On Sept 6 the Highlanders hosted Huron Perth in Ayton.
After a 5 sec fight for the puck at the center face off, it was an end to end game.
Cam made some big stops with 12:00  and 10:43 left in the first. The highlanders had some good chances on deflections by Richards at 9:00 and Simmons at 1:40 remaining on a power play. Soon after we were 2 man up on a 5-3 power play but couldn't put one in. The first was tied 0-0.

The Highlanders started the period with some good pressure at 13:12. the Lakers made a rush at 12:00 min and with a fortunate bounce  the Lakers were up 1-0.
A good 2 on 1 chance by Cook was stopped at 10:31 by Lakers goalie. Cam stopped a breakaway at 9:38. Finally with good pressure by the Simmons line, Hoppy was able to put in a loose puck at 5:52. On a delay penalty call, Riehl scored at 5:00 on a slapshot to the top right corner from the blueline. Soon after, with both teams a player in the box, Lakers scored at 3:14. Then with the highlanders down a player, the Lakers defence scored on a slapshot from the point to the top left corner. Second period ended 3-2 Lakers

On a trip call, the highlanders went to the penalty kill. At 11:11 the Lakers snuck one in to take a  4-2 lead. At 9min left in the period , again some good pressure from the Simmons Barfoot line. At 3:32 Hopkins spotted  Simmons up ice and with a beauty feed Simmons on a breakaway scored on a deke to the right. At 1:43 with an errant clear pass that went up the center, the Lakers scored on a bounce off the boards. However, Whitey wasn't done as a slapshot off the point went top right corner at 1:22. With 53 seconds left, Cam was pulled; however the highlanders couldnt put one in to tie it up. A very entertaining game. Final score 5-4 for the Lakers.
